Mom moved to Sheridan, Wyoming just as she was ready to start school and spent the rest of her formative years in Sheridan. She had two older brothers, Richard Adolph and Gerald Jack (both now deceased) and an older sister who died shortly after birth. She greatly enjoyed sports in high school - playing basketball, tennis, and volleyball - and earned three stripes on her letter sweater. She was also a class officer and a member of the Latin club.
