Christmas Report

Farm Report

Due to lack of rain (we spent most of the year in a state of severe drought), we've been sitting around watching Red Bud Island disappear (again) and the pond go down, down, and down, almost to the point of becoming a mud hole. This made us very sad, which required lots of beer to lift our spirits.  Fortunately, in November we got lots of rain.  The pond filled up and the island returned which required lots of beer to celebrate.

We currently have 5 head of chicken and 1 cat.  We got three chicks this spring.  They were all supposed to be baby hens but we finally wound up with a baby rooster (which we eventually re-homed).  I guess the sexing process still isn't perfect.  We had a poor blackberry crop again this year.  We had a middling hay crop. The garden was a mixed bag, some crops did very well, others were bloom and bust, and others never really even got started. There seems to be neither rhyme nor reason to it.

We had a hellacious fire sweep through in late October.  Thanks to luck, a very skilled and determined fire tanker operator, and hundreds of feet of hose, the fire skirted all our major structures.  However, it  wiped out all the current blackberry growth so who knows when we'll get more.  It also nailed the north garden pretty hard and we lost quite a bit of gardening supplies and equipment (see the pix).

Construction Report

We've gone from construction to repair.  There's always something.

Music Report

We got a couple of real gigs this year.  Early on, we performed at  a Mardi Gras party down in Tulsa.  This fall we were featured at the "One Armed Bandit and Company Wild West Show" in Shidler, OK (See the pix).    We  continue to attend picking and grinning sessions when they arise.

Anyone passing this way is always welcome to drop in and sit a spell. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season and we wish you all the best for the coming year.
