Pawhuska Pix

In Memoriam
  Lillian Allene (Fortune) Webster, May 14, 1928 - January 28, 2024

Trish's mom, Allene, passed away early this year  at the age of 95.  She led a long and full life.  Her obituary is available.

The Babies:  Class of 2024

Trish gave them funny celebrity names.  (Clockwise from top) Yoka (Yokahontas), Attilia (Attilia the Hen), and Angie (Angelina Jopeep).

<<Little balls of fluff starting out in their first home in the tub.

Soon they moved into the Chic Carlton.>>

<<Their first outing into the great outdoors.

<<Yoka pleads, "Aren't I cute.  Certainly you have a peanut for me?"

<<Angie coming out as Brad.  Turns out she was a he.  Yoka and Attilia walk away in disgust.  We (people and hens) didn't want to deal with a rooster so we re-homed Brad.

Our perpetual baby:  Nucy.  Here she is, rolling in the dirt, working it in as deep as possible, so she can dash in to the house and decorate our walls and clothes.>>

  Friends and Indians

<<Trish with high school friend Maggie Morgan.  She (with husband Clyde) visited Pawhuska this summer and they had the chance to reminisce.

The Osage Nation continues to renovate and erect new buildings and facilities in Pawhuska.  Shown at right:  the health center (still under construction), visitors' center, and outdoor health complex.>>

They've also constructed hiking trails, a greenhouse complex, and many new buildings on the top of the hill.

<<Top:  Entrance to the hiking trails.  It's a very nice walk.  Interspersed among the trails and trees is a disc golf course.  Bottom:  the greenhouse complex.

The trails meander over Byrd Creek.  There's just something about the look of rusting iron.>>

The Pleasures of Country Living

<<There's just something about Possumhaw.  Those bright red berries, especially after new fallen snow.

A cold, cold looking sky.>>

<<Summer lushness with a hint of rainbow.

Advice on Owning Country Property

Remember, things grow!  Before you know it meadows turn to jungle. Saplings become stately trees that threaten power lines and buildings.  While you're not watching Mother Nature can quickly take over.

<<Trees can make great fence posts if you're patient.

This used to be a neat tidy meadow (in a portion of our property we rarely visit).  A  few years later it had become an impenetrable jungle.  The fire cleared the brush so we can at least walk thru it again.>>

THERE IS ALWAYS A CONSTANT THREAT OF FIRE !

The North Road Fire of 2024

It was a day from hell, strong winds blowing and gusting to 40 mph and more.

<<You think, "What idiot would be burning on a day like today?"  Trish said, "We'd better get out the hoses."

Within a few minutes it was here, and  headed towards our barn.>>

We owe a great debt to a very skilled and determined tank trunk operator from the Osage Hills Volunteer Fire Department who kept the fire from being a whole lot worse.  We managed to keep the fire away from all our major structures.  Our losses were confined to the garden and pond.

We didn't get a lot pix while the fire was raging.  We were rather busy, running to and fro, hoses in hand.

<<The worst is over and things are under control.

The gardens got hit hard and we lost a bunch of equipment and supplies.  Thank God the propane tank didn't blow, and I was able to put out the fire on the electric pole.>>

<<Good Ol' Rocky Top ain't got nothing on us!

The fire revealed a new site we're not used to seeing.  It looks like a bomb crater but it's our lagoon, previously well hidden by trees and brush.>>

<<A view from our deck after the fire.  We lost the ferry and fishing docks.  On the bright side, it got rid of a lot of the weeds and brush I wanted to clear.

A view from the deck as the fire burns itself out. We were having a well deserved cold one!>>

Family reunion and Diane's Birthday Party

In November we attended the 75th birthday gathering of Trish's cousin, Diane, in Tulsa.

The birthday dinner  was quite the feast.  A catered meal was prepared at the apartment of Diane's sister, Jeni.  The champagne was flowing, also.

<<Salmon plate, yummy!.
