The marathon construction project of the House from Hell continues at an increasingly enfeebled pace. I wish I'd been keeping a dairy, then at least I'd know if any progress was being made. But I haven't. I'm sure it only seems like forever, but memories of any former life grow dimmer by the day. And to think, I always wanted to build a house. Can't help but think of the old proverb, "The gods grant the wishes of those whom they wish to curse!" The weather was a reversal of last year. Had an unusually wet spring, and we actually got to see our pond full again. Summer was fairly mild. Fall was long lasting and very pleasant. The fall colors this year were totally pud. Seems like they came and went faster than I've ever seen. If you blinked you missed it. We always seem to have snow and ice before Christmas and this year was no exception. We were very fortunate: We were on the fringes of the biggest ice storm ever recorded in Oklahoma. Just 30 miles south the devastation was incredible. As usual, our main source of entertainment is picking and performing. We went to several music festivals and played numerous gigs with our various bands. We started up a biannual trailer rendezvous so all the local pickers could bring their instruments, camp out, and howl at the moon all night. We've had two so far, and it is reported that a good time was had by all. We hope you all are doing well. We wish you Merry Christmas, a joyous Holiday Season, and all the best for the coming year.

Farm Report All of Trish's efforts at turning the South 40 into a bluebird sanctuary seem to be paying off. We now enjoy the company of a volary of bluebirds. They even provide a fair amount of entertainment. I've become an experience sparrow trapper. "The only good sparrow is a dead sparrow." That's our motto. We've gotten back into worm ranching and the bins of mealworms stacked around the house have become a real conversation piece. And the bluebirds do seem to be appreciative. Construction Report The year has gone by in a blur. I'm not sure what, if anything, has been done. Music Report After achieving stellar national and even international acclaim ;-) in 2006, our band, Pocket Change, decided to rest on its laurels and hang up its spurs. After all, where else was there to go? So we've been recruited by another band, Cabin House. It'll be such fun rising to the top again! 2007 has turned out to be a big year for the Monroe Sisters, a band definitely on the rise. Their folksy stories about Daddy, Moma, Uncles Woody, Merle, and Hank, doing time, gender crises, and general sex, drugs, and a man called Monroe have enthralled audiences lapping at their feet. Anyone passing this way is always welcome to drop in and sit a spell. Hope you all have a merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season and we wish you all the best for the coming year. |
