The Deck was the Major Project of the year.  Blood, Sweat, and Tears.  Enough said.

<<As soon as we get the garage cleaned out from one project, we immediately fill it up with the next.

Just before ground breaking.  Though it served us well, Trish was happy to see the minideck go.>>

Getting the support structure in place on rough, rocky, uneven ground was a challenge.

<<Many's the time I wished I had a crane.

Happy was the day when we finally started laying in the joists.>>

<<Even happier was the day we started putting the decking on.  At this point we started using the deck and sat out almost every evening.

The last post.  I couldn't find my level that day.>>

Once the decking was down, I couldn't believe how big it was.  A vast expanse of open space.  It seemed such a pity to fence it in.

Though I really liked the look of an open deck, common sense prevailed, so we railed it;  then roofed it as well.  And the vast expanse became so small.

Looking at these pictures will bring back so many happy memories to share with the grandchildren ;-)

<<It may not be a work of art, but we certainly enjoy it.

After a three (or was it four?) year lull, we finally got back to finishing the siding.>>

<<It was a long way around the house.

Definitely looks more civilized now.  All it lacks is a front porch, and steps, and siding, and......>>

<<The last leg, boy were we glad to be done with this!

Now it's back to working inside  until spring.>>
